February Celebrates Black History Month!
Black History Month is a time to honor the contributions and legacy of African Americans across U.S. history and society, from activists and civil rights pioneers such as Shirley Chisholm, Sojourner Truth, Marcus Garvey, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X and Maya Angelou to leaders in industry, politics, science and so much more.
In the video below, children will learn about the origin of Black History Month, notable Black Americans, and ways to celebrate at home and in school! Watch with them and answer their questions! What is Black History Month? "Hey Black Child" written by Useni Eugene Perkins and illustrated by Bryan Collier, is read here by children of the Great Start Family Coalition.
